Widefield District 3 Preschool Library

The North Preschool Library is always a busy place to be. Each child visits the library once a week. At that time, they participate in story time and choose a book to take home to read with their family.  During that time, they may choose to color a picture, play an educational game, make a craft or just play at the learning center. Students are only allowed one book at a time. When they return a book they check out on library day, they may pick a new one to take home.
Please help your child establish rules about caring for and returning their books on time. We stress gentle hands, no food or drinks near our books, no marking in our books, keeping our books away from pets and babies, and keeping our books in a safe place at home. This is often their back pack which also helps with returning the book on time! As a reminder for Parents/Guardians, it is the policy in Widefield District 3 that books that receive damage or books that are lost are the financial responsibility of the adult.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 books Before Kindergarten is a program run at the preschool in conjunction with Security Public Library that aims to have every preschool student read 1,000 books before they enter kindergarten. Reading offers so many benefits to your child. It is fun, it provides a close, quiet time with adults or siblings, encourages development of the mind, helps children learn language, and grows vocabulary. If you read one book a day for less than three years or three books a day for one year, you will reach your goal! Register for the program and receive a reading log. Keep track of the titles you read-Children LOVE to read the same books again and again and that is quite alright-every book counts! Return the reading log to class and it will be given to the librarian to record. The child will then get a new log. Each time your child hears 200 books they will earn a reading patch. When they complete the program they will get a framed certificate and a brand new book to keep. Have fun reading with your children!
