The Pyramid Model and PBIS

The Pyramid Model for Promoting Social-Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children

As defined by the National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations, "the Pyramid Model is a framework of evidence-based practices for promoting young children’s healthy social and emotional development." This means that the Pyramid Model simply provides a foundation for programs to use to support the health and well being of children's social-emotional development.

As a preschool, we train our staff in the Pyramid Model alongside best evidence-based classroom practices identified in Widefield School District's Teaching and Learning Cycle. We also use a variety of the resources to build school wide systems of support for our learners and families.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

We are safe. We protect ourselves and others. We are responsible We make good choices. We are kind. We choose to be friendly towards all.

Positive behavior intervention and supports (PBIS) is a framework or approach for helping school staff in adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral supports and interventions into an integrated continuum that enhances academic and social behavior outcomes for all students.

As a school, we built our expectations and rules based on our priorities for learners at preschool. We call these the Bear Necessities. We are safe. We protect ourselves and others. We are responsible. We make good choices. We are kind. We are friendly towards all.  Learners can earn Warm Fuzzies and class parties when they are caught being safe, responsible and kind!

We also have Family Passports that can help connect our expectations with home activities. The passports will come home quarterly and can be submitted for prizes. Families can also submit their home warm fuzzies for class acknowledgment and continued home-school connection.
